African Eagle Resources is a UK-incorporated company traded on London AIM (AFE) and Johannesburg AltX (AEA). The Company discovered the Dutwa nickel project in Tanzania in mid-2008 and has since transformed itself from a multinational diversified explorer into a Tanzanian exploration and development company.
The Dutwa Nickel Laterite project commenced the Dutwa Feasibility Study stage in 2011 but has recently suspended activity as the company seeks a Strategic Partner to help fund completion of a Bankable Feasibility Study.
The Dutwa project is targeted to produce around 27,000 tonnes of nickel in an intermediate product (form of concentrate) at full production from an open pit mine using atmospheric tank leaching, a well proven technology which uses standard processes and equipment. More information on the project can be found here.
Atmospheric tank leaching for nickel has been sucessfully employed for several years as a part of the Ravensthorpe mine in Western Australia and is also used to process other metals, such as cobalt, copper and gold. The Dutwa ores, unlike other nickel laterites, have a low iron and high silica content which makes them amenable to leaching at atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric tank leaching is more favourable to the overall Dutwa project economics and operating environment, and possesses a lower risk profile than either high pressure acid leach ("HPAL") or heap leaching. More information on the technology can be found here.
Tanzania is Africa's fourth largest gold producing country and has a mining friendly environment. The mining sector is a leading foreign exchange earner and one of the country's key growth areas. The Dutwa project is expected to be Tanzania's first nickel mine.
African Eagle also holds significant interests in several "legacy" mineral ventures, acquired before it discovered Dutwa. These include:
Miyabi gold project
At the Miyabi gold project in Tanzania, the joint venture partner ASX listed Rift Valley Resources (formerly known as BrightStar Resources) has achieved encouraging drilling results. Rift Valley Resources is earning a 75% interest from African Eagle by funding and managing the project through to a Feasibility Study.
